The Cleveland Jewish News profiles Maxwell “Max” Peltz, a criminal defense attorney at Zukerman, Lear Murray & Brown Co. LPA in Cleveland. Peltz, 30, traces his path to criminal defense law to a 2014 arrest at an Ohio University student senate meeting, where he and three fellow Jewish students were charged with disturbing a lawful meeting after protesting the student senate president’s call to divest from Israel. The charges were dismissed roughly six months later. During that period, Larry Zukerman — managing partner of the firm and the father of one of Peltz’s childhood friends — reached out to offer free representation and later hired Peltz as a law clerk before bringing him on as an associate attorney. Peltz handles criminal defense matters primarily, along with personal injury, custody, divorces, expungements, and appeals.
