The Cleveland Jewish News featured Larry Zukerman, managing partner at Zukerman, Daiker & Lear Co. in Cleveland, on the legal landscape surrounding workplace bullying in the wake of the #MeToo movement.
Zukerman pointed out a significant gap in Ohio law: “Unfortunately, in Ohio, there is no statute that covers bullying. In some states, like California, there are definitions of bullying. But in Ohio, not only is there no legislation but there is no pending legislation on how one should foster a healthy workplace.”
While acknowledging that the rise in reported cases has brought hidden misconduct to light, Zukerman also cautioned about collateral damage: “It is also bad because a lot of innocent people are hurt by allegations. That is the collateral damage of the good.” He expressed optimism that checks and balances would emerge over time to protect both accusers and the accused.
